Well guys, I just ordered 2000 of the Cheddite paper hulls from Graf's.
Would anyone have a good suggestion as to a starting point for loading
these. I will have them tested, but don't really know where I should
start. Hoping to come up with a smokeless load, around 1150 FPS @ 7200
PSI. Also, has anyone ever tried trimming a paper hull. Would really
like to trim these to 2-9/16" if possible. Thanks, Dave

Dave. Did Grafs give you a time frame for delivery? I went to their sight and it says out of stock. I would like to get some paper shells for black powder.

Dave, Ben et al.

My sources at Graf's say summer at least for the paper hulls.

I don't know if that means June, July, August or Indian Summer late in the fall Confused just "summer"

I did place an order for 2500 back in November in hopes I'd see them in this lifetime once again (since paper seems to be a thing of the past anymore).....

dr 16 ga. Thank you. BPI has paper shells in 12 gauge but not in 16. I guess your idea of getting them on order is a good way to go. Don't see any other way to get the paper 16's

Guys, I talked with Mike Graf yesterday. He said he expects the 16 gauge paper hulls the end of March or the first of April. Time will tell. Wink

Dave,

As I shoot 2 9/16" chambered guns I have to trim those 2 3/4" lil darlings down each and every time.

Long ago I fabricated a block - I used good hard red oak, bored out a hole to fit the shell - it has to be exactly perpendicular to the block bottom - and sized very carefully to just allow the hull to slip in. Originally I did this on a wood lathe, but you can also use a drill press if you are clever about it. Make the block big enough that it keeps your fingers out of the way.

I then chuck up a 2 1/2" dia 0.030" thick slitting saw in the drill press on a commercially available mandrel - carefully set the height - and carefully keeping your irreplaceable fingers out of the way, slide the block to the cutter and trim to length.

I have done several thousands of hulls this way. Now that I have metalworking capabilities I have thought about making a better holder out of aluminum, however, I just keep using the old wooden blocks - I have two of them, one for the old discontinued Activs, and one for Fiocchi/Cheddites, and in fact worked up another hundred with it yesterday.

P
