Old hunter,
The term "Clunker" is an endearing term used to discribe the sound of the old long action semi autos as the eject a shell. The old model 11's, A5's and the likes. The sound of "CLUNK..Clunk" is music to ones ears.
Best,
Ron

....when I was a snooty purist english gun prig (before my recent conversion), clunker was a term my elite anglo gun aficianado snob chums used to refer to any clubby, heavy, ponderous, oar-like shotgun (usually vintage American), be it auto, pump, or double......and in our glorious folly, presumed they ALL were like that, PERIOD!.....just goes to prove that true ignorance is contempt prior to investigation.....man, this investigatin' is fun and the more I explore, the more ignernt I get

Oldhunter: I think you mistook my post. I just like the straight stock! I'd like an old "clunker" straight stock as much as a fancy one. I also hunt(and have for the past 30 years) my fathers 1950 sweet 16. Now that is a sweet clunker!

Okay. Now are you going to say that when I tell you the drop at heel on my latest Elsie is okay? 3 inches and you have never pulled a gun up so natural. I just hope I can find a 16 gauge the same. By the way if any of you ever get up to Minnesota and want to hunt with the best pheasant dog ever, let me know? |
