below is an extract of some previous posts.

Any interest?

Posted after the state survey results:
I was surprised to see the results, figured they're be more involvement from the more eastern regions.
So when is the Texas 16 Ga target shoot?
Based on this report, we Texans seem to have more participants on this forum, and possibly more 16 ga shooters, but where are they living?
A 16 ga event scheduled in Dallas is not the same as one scheduled in El Paso or Brownsville or Houston.
A central location would possibly be vicinity San Angelo / Abilene.
Do we have anyone in that area?
Anyone interested?

The Response from Amarillo Mike

Re: Texas shoot

Obviously I live in Amarillo but Dallas or San Antonio appeal to me as the site of a "central shoot". I don't get to the "Big City" that often and would like to spend some time at the gunshops, Cabelas, Bass Pro, etc... There are several shooting clubs available and I would like to shoot several of them.

I also suggest someone name a time that can be a starting point for the online discussion. Quail season is not over until the last weekend of this month by-the-way.

Best,

Mike

Propsed date by rayb

OK how about

20-22 April

next step ?? Any interest out there?

Howdy,

I live in the Dallas area, and April 21-22 would work for me.

What ranges do you guys like? I shot Elm Fork and liked it very much.

The dates are good for me. The Texas side X side club had a shoot at the Austin, Capital City gun club two years ago. They put on a good shoot with a Bar B Que lunch. August Crocker with ELEY shotshells helped organize / sponsor the shoot. He provided optional, low pressure shells, for vinatage guns.
Two other locations that have sponsored side x side shoots are the San Angelo gun club and Joshua Creek Ranch near Boerne, Tx. The owner at Joshua Creet waved the steel shot only rule for our old guns. Gunsmith, Krik Merrington was our guest speaker providing good information and tips on gun care for side X side lovers.
Take a look at the Texas Side x Side club, http://www.texassxsclub.org/
website. You do not have to be a member to join in with us for the shoots. The club is pretty new, thrid year, just a bunch of guys that get together to shoot side x sides.
Let me know if I can help organize or make calls for support.

San Antonio would be good. Dallas is my second choice. I know nothing about which clubs to choose. Dates work in my schedule.

Since I am in the DFW area, Dallas is most convenient (though I would be willing to travel a little). The dates are also convenient.

See the link to ShootersPageTx.com, this is a directory of about every NSCA and non NSCA club in Texas. I was looking through it found a club in Carrizo Springs. If they have a club in Carrizo we should be able to find a place to meet and bust some clays. The San Antonio club and Elm Fork clubs are listed. It's about as broad as it is long for me, both work.

Here's what we have so far:

Elm Fork - Dallas
Capital City - Austin
San Angelo Gun Club
Joshua Creek - Boerne
"San Antonio"
Carrizo Springs

21-22 April

I think 21 April is San Jacinto - Aggie Muster day (i think), and San Antonio Fiesta, week so San Antonio will be full of tourists, motels booked up.

Boerne evidently has a steel shot rule...

Carrizo Springs has 1 and a half motels, and is a long way from anywhere (I know, i grew up around there), about 80 m iles north of Laredo, and 40 from the Rio Grande at Piedras Negras, Coahuila

Elm Fork or Dallas has been mentioned 3 times

Austin- Capital City

San Angelo

So lets take a poll, i'll count votes until let's say 1 March. Most votes sets the location. Then we work on arrangements with whatever location is picked.

I'm in Arizona right now and can't do much else.

Now lets hear from you Texas 16'ers.

I vote Elm Fork, and have two furnished rooms in my home that I will offer to out of town members to help defray costs.

I'm good with Elm Fork, although, Piedras would have the best Cabrito.
