I have scouted out the lodging near the shooting range and here is what I have found:
On Northwest Highway at I-35E there is a Holiday Inn Express (214-350-4011) with a weekend rate of $89.99 (possibly lower with a group rate). Just across the street is a Days Inn and Suites (214-350-5800) with a weekend rate of $64. Presently both have availability. These are located very near most of the popular eateries (there is a Starbucks and Waffle House next door to the Holiday Inn Express) and only a couple miles east of the shooting range (which is accessed off of Northwest Highway on Luna Road).
There are other popular motels in this complex such as the La Quinta, Radisson, and the like (you can do the Googling-just Google your favorite chain in Dallas). Look for addresses on Northwest Highway near I-35E (Stemmons) or Loop 12. This is the central location nearest the shooting range.
Spouses/significant others are encouraged to attend. Just give us a good head count so we can cook enough burgers! You're on your own as far as booking any lodging is concerned.
Thanks,
Marc |

Marc and I are working on the menu and BBQ logistics as well. Our preliminary suggested fare looks like BBQ over charcoal and mesquite:
Burgers, hot dogs, sausages; beans, chili (for chili dogs or on the side), potato salad, chips, maybe some cobbler and homemade pie, definitely Blue Bell, Dr Pepper, bottled water, and at my wife's insistence, napkins (though shirt sleeves are still allowed).
This is not comprehensive or final, but just so to whett your whistle. |

Howdy the Texas gang,
Has anything definite been determined?
- What day?
- What time to show up?
- Who to ask for?
- How many shells to bring?
- How much money to bring?
- Food? Pot luck? What's needed?
- Are we scheduled with Elm Fork?
- How many are definite?
- Are we shooting sporting clays?
- Skeet?
- Trap?
Sorry for all the questions, but don't want to show up unprepared. Used to be a Boy Scout.
Happy trails,
HHH |

Let me see if I can answer most of these:
Saturday, April 21st. If you are coming from out of town and want to stay a second day and shoot, you certainly may but we will not have a organized event the second day.
Time: The course and clubhouse/office open at 9:00, but I would suggest you get here around 8:00 AM for a meet and greet.
Contact: Jeanie is part owner and will steer you to where we are set up. The picnic areas are not all that spread out, and I will have a sign of some sort identifying the group. We are on Elm Fork's official calendar, and Jeanie has promised a place for us to do our BBQ
We will be doing the "Woods" sporting clays course. It is a hundred targets. We may hang around and do a little skeet, five stand, etc. after our BBQ lunch. So you need 100 rounds minimum, and whatever you need after that should you desire to avail yourself of any shooting after the Woods course and lunch. 7 1/2 is the largest shot size allowed at Elm Fork, so check those loads.
Your expenses as to the event break down as follows:
It's about 40.00 with tax that Elm Fork charges for the 100 target Woods course. Lots of interesting presentations, and it will take til lunch to complete it, especially if we have a small group and can keep everyone together. Skeet costs 7.00 or 8.00, and I don't know what 5 stand or the trap fees are. They take plastic in the office. As to cash, let me address that with the next question as to potluck..
Three of us 16 ers in the DFW area are going to handle the perishables: meat, potatoe salad, chili, beans, etc. We'll BBQ burgers and dogs (no pointers) over charcoal and mesquite, and you can make your own chili dog if you wish. I'm thinkin' that if everyone kicks in 10.00 or 12.00, we can cover our costs for a great BBQ. Blue Bell with a million toppings for dessert, and away you go. If you are driving from out of town, or will fly in and have a rental car, bringing non-perishables like drinks (we can ice them down in the morning when you arrive) would be helpful. No alcohol is allowed on the premises, so by drinks I mean bottled water, Dr. Pepper (hey, this is Texas, and if you really want to score points, bring the real stuff from Dublin with Imperial sugar), gatorade, sports water, etc.
I will have donuts and coffee on site for a little sugar high to start your day. Yes, they will be Krispy Kremes.
You can go back over the thread to see how many have confirmed they are coming, but if memory serves we have around seven or eight so far. Ten guys would be a great group, but it's going to be a great group as it stands.
If anyone has any questions or suggestions, you may PM me for my cell #. I'm not spearheading this cuz I have any great organizational skills, but because I love the gauge and the guys who share that passion. Just over three weeks til the first (annual?) TX 16 GA shoot. If anyone has any ideas for prizes, and especially someone who could arrange commemerative hats (may be too late for that), step up to the plate.

My e mail is down, so if you need to talk to me post it here on the board and I will check the thread daily. This means also that I am not getting notification of PM's.

To all coming in from out of town for the shoot,
I have committed to staying at the Holiday Inn Express, 2287 West Northwest Highway, phone 214 350 4011. I arrive Friday evening on the 20th and will have to leave after the shoot and lunch on the 21st.
Spoke with Wingshooter and will bring soft drinks.
Look forward to meeting up and breaking some clays together,
Mike Lewis

I may have a third shooter, in addition to:
-H.H. Hipshot
-D.C. Bonecrusher
Not sure of his alias at the moment, but will advise.
Happy trails,

I am going to put up a new thread asking for a final headcount, so we can prepare provisions accordingly. Get ready to rumble!

Absolutely, PostOak. Methinks even if they do not shoot a 16 they would be welcome, and we would convert them. Heck, I don't even know if I'm going to be shooting a 16, as the gunsmith has it and doesn't know if it will be ready in time! Let me know how many "fer shure" when you can. We are going to prepare food for 12 to 15, and TXshootist and I will eat all the leftovers.
