Yup, I am in touch with Stokes as you recommended. I think 1620 are now 3700, and 1620e, cost another grand.....have a line on a used 1620 with case for 3400.......which one do you have? |

I like 'em because when my cheapo hunting buddies say "hey man, you got some extra shells"? I can say, "sure... are 1oz 16ga's ok for you"?
They just kinda look at you in astonishment!
I think Bill also gives you a skeet choke as well. |

Don't get me wrong, but most people miss the real reason that the 16 bore out performs the smaller bores. It is because the 16 can handle larger shot sizes more effeciently than the smaller bores. When I was younger and had more time to experiment, I conducted patterning tests with my 12, 16, and 20. I generally concluded that the 12 was best for all shot sizes up to #2 for the same shot load size. The 16 was almost as good and, in some cases, better given the same choke , load, and shot size. The 20 bore began to lose even patterns with # 4 shot. I concluded that the 12 should be my duck gun, the 16, my all around upland gun, and the 20, my dove an quail gun.
I know that there are exceptions to every rule and some 20's pattern well with larger shot, but generally speaking, the 16 will pattern better, and with a larger shot load. If I had known that there were lighter 16 bores available 30 years ago, I probably would never have started using a 20. But I'm glad I did because I would'nt have discovered the joys of smaller bores.
In closing, I would like to say that I'm not a bore snob, but I'm glad that we have all bores available and that the 16 bore is making a resurgence in popularity. Now if we can just get the target shooters to specify 16 bore classifications.... |

Gander Mountain seems to have a couple everytime I go there. Cabela's is also a place to look, though neither is much better, if at all, on price. Seems to be a limited quantity and everyone knows it. |

Ah, but the 28GA and its 3/4oz of square/balance is a thing of beauty above all else that I have yet to experience. Just like the 16GA with 1oz, but with sexy little shells that fit 25 to the pocket with room left for pool. And even a little sapre change you'll need for the shells. |
