I don't know Mike, but it looks like it has about 6" of drop.

What is that thing half way down the barrel?

Remington and Whitney made these in various gauges here in the US - on that famous rolling-block action which was so popular in nearly every RF and CF rifle caliber. It made sense to offer a single-shot shotgun in the same action that was so familiar to many people.

Remington sold large numbers of military rolling-block rifles to several Scandinavian countries, so it also makes sense that a local maker would want to capitalize on that familiarity.

We have a Remington example that has been in the family since it was new and it still gets some use because it is so darn fun to shoot. It does not have the long barrel and excessive drop at heel that this one has and is a natural "pointer".

They have several of them configured the same as this one except for shorter barrels - 30", 32" 34" 35" 38" etc...

Why 39.1 inch barrels? On Station 8 at skeet you could just reach up with the barrel and swat the clay - no need to burn a shell. With all the trap guys showing up with 34" barrels I am sure the next trap star will be equipped with 36" barrels by the gun manufacturers to make the 32 and 34" old technology. This gun is a chance to be on the leading edge of trap technology Laughing

Would somebody with more imagination than me take some guesses at what the guy that bought the gun when it was new intended to do with it? I don't have a clue.

I have shot guns with lots of drop and can adjust after a little practice.

I think the thing half way down the barrel is the rear half of what I would call a rifle site.

In the old days of black powder, didn't people believe a longer barrel would reach farther ? Naybe this guy was a long range hunter ?
