Hey guys,

Well I tried to update my email here last year since I changed internet providers. After the update I could not log back in. That was really frustrating for a 16ga shooter. Some of my good buddies here tried to help me by contacting the moderators. Didn't do much good.
I had to resort to signing up as a new member. The thing I'm most bummed about is not now having the blue 16ga logo under my user name. Oh well...just glad to be on here once again.

I had some good and bad things this year. Pheasant season was superb in South Dakota. I was there hunting for 30 days. I think pheasant numbers were double from 2017. Had good guys come to hunt at my house. Pheasants were plentiful so lots of bird contact resulting in dead roosters. Plenty of missed shots for good stories told. It's fun hanging out with friends during hunting season.

I lost two dogs this year. My 6yo chocolate lab due to unknown illness in October. I bought a started 10 month old black lab to replace him so I'd have a duck dog to hunt with. He turned out to be a wicked little pheasant dog. I watched him learn every day while hunting pheasants. He was lots of fun in the field.

One of my French Brits got a tongue infection that wouldn't clear up. It got the best of him pretty fast. It's really tough loosing dogs.

I just got a second black lab from a guy going through a divorce. He's a nice 2 yo dog trained for ducks that I'll get on roosters next season.

I got to pheasant hunt with fellow 16ga member fin2feather again this fall. He and his buddies are great guys and lots of fun to hang with. He shoots a nice Fox 16ga.

Ray-citori here on 16ga drove from Texas to SD staying at my house for 5 days. He got a really nice rooster that he took to the taxidermist for mounting. This was his first SD rooster. He was happy as a guy could be! He'll be back this fall with his lab.

That's about it in a nutshell. Glad to be back. Say "Howdy".

Welcome back. This internet stuff can really get complicated sometimes. That gun in the picture above reminds me of my 30" barrel 16 ga Fox, am I close?

Purple16,

Welcome Back to the 16 Forum, getting a new provider is a big pain no doubt about it. Messes up a lot of things, had it happen long ago myself.

Great update and the picture is fantastic!

Very sorry about the loss of your dogs, lived thru similar stuff this last 2 years. Lost 3 of my Grouse Dogs 2 Setters and an 18 year old Small Munsterlander to old age, and and one Weimar to Epilepsy/old age also. Not happy times.

Sounds like you have been having great times with the members visiting you for serious hunts!

Thanks!

My shotgun is a 1912 Charles Daly 16ga. It has 28" barrels and weighs 5#12oz. It's the bird gun I use most of the time. I shoot 2.5" 1oz @1200fps. I've had it several years and really enjoy it.

Is your Fox a Sterlingworth?

My Fox is a 1939 Savage Fox special. I looked and looked for a Sterlingworth with modern stock dimensions, and was almost resigned to buying a Sterlingworth with good metal and getting it restocked when I lucked onto this Special on this website. I only had to add a tapered spacer to the SC-100 pad and it fits perfectly.

Good to have you back, even with a new alias. I guess if I change providers I will just leave well enough alone, 3rd party email should solve that anyway. Sorry to hear about losing two of your furry hunting buddies, that's always a harsh sorrow to endure. It sounds like you guys had great time in pheasant country though. Anyway, welcome home.

Pine Creek and Riflemeister thanks for putting up photos. Guys here should post more pictures. Always good to see.

WyoChukar I started hunting pheasants around Lovell, Worland, Powell, Byron and Riverton. Love the Bighorn Basin country!

You know, Riverton wasn't too bad this year. A good number of wild birds if you had enough places to go. I was surprised. I haven't seen birds like that here since my late teens. It was rather special getting in so many good hunts at the end of season. As silly as it sounds it was like reliving those days, but with a better gun and a great dog.

WyoChukar,

Growing up with some Great Weimar's and great Ryman Setters, we often took our hunting friends as we hunted wild birds, just to introduce them to some incredible dog work.

This did not make the mothers of these boys very happy when they wanted to purchase a similar dog. Even in that era Ryman Setters and real German Weimar dogs, cost some serious money. The guys in Lancaster County all wanted a real Weimar dog to Pheasant hunt, and the boys in Potter County wanted a Ryman Setter to hunt Grouse & Woodcock.

We helped introduce a lot of men and boys in that era, into the Upland Shooting Life.

Your comment about Better gun & Great dog is fully understood here, I was very glad I did not have to live it, as many of our home town boys did.

Bobby aka: dukxdog , aka Purple16 Smile

Will you be accepting reservations for the 2019-2020 pheasant season?
