The Arkansas dove opener comes with the sun tomorrow.
The field has been mowed and the weed seeds are laying in wait. The doves noted, while not as numerous as times past, should be sufficient.
My little German beauty has had her chokes opened to LM and about 500 rounds have been fired at skeet and SC. She is slick, clean, and ready to be bloodied with our first day in the field since I came to possess her.
The Chessie has been regularly out of the kennel and tuned up on obedience drills and blinds.
The youngest son will arrive before daylight with his trusty O/U 12 bore and my stash of 12ga. shells will be raided and the brags of who will shoot best will begin.

I will heading down to SE Colorado tomorrow to test my mettle against those wicked little gray rockets. Always a big day for the ammo companies.  |

The day is over, the sxs is cleaned, and the Chessie is asleep in the kennel.
The birds, while numerous, were not as hoped for. Youth and eyesight took a few more birds, but age and experience fired less shells, and no, neither of us will disclose shot to hit ratios.
Opening day with a 16 bore sxs, a dog who likes to work, and your best hunting bud-who happens to be your son........Could it get any better?
