C'mon my brother 16 er's, tell us about those opening day dove hunts and how you almost got skunked and which 16 got the nod. Wink

Well, I spent the weekend on 300 acres, and never saw a single dove. They didn't even come in to water in the evening.

Heard some shots on property around me, but not a lot.

Only dove I have seen were in the city limits. Saw about a thousand on one cutover field.

We can't hunt the little Darlings in Michigan. Sad

They are considered a song bird.
However, Grouse season is only 9 days away. Very Happy

I've got the same problem as Dave M, can't hunt them here in the People's Republic of NJ.

Grouse doesn't open until the middle of Oct.

But I can hunt deer with a bow starting Sat, if I want to go out in 80+ degree weather.

Got out verrry late on the 1st just to say I did & only stirred up several flights out of roost - tho too far away to shoot at - wound up with 1 rattlesnake. Had a great time, tho!

I melted the barrels on my sweet sixteen. It was pretty much over before it started. Great thing about it we went down the street to another field and shot limits of geese(early am). One of my better days in North Georgia. I only used a box of Kent Tm for the five geese so it was a cost effective hunt given the price of those shells.

I was held hostage and forced to consume vast amounts of Pork and Tequila - the hunting wasn't so great.

A little warm for ruff grouse but two days out and a couple limits says it was good hunting. The old lab and I walked out the small stream bottoms and weeps around our area and had good hunts and never saw another hunter. The little 16g Beretta skt/ic was all I needed. That and a box of old Winchester Promo shells did a job on the poor defenseless grouse. Tomorrows a gun show and Sunday is back to chasing grouse. Life is great in Montana.

But isn't it about as cold as a welldigger's a** there for 8 months of the year? Especially in the northwest corner of the state where you are?

I'm not sure my ol' bones could take it! Question
