It may sound silly, but I sure would like to find a pair of 15-inch boots and some riding pants to wear while hunting with my 16, just like the gentleman sharing his pipe tobacco with his friend on the home page of 16ga.com.
Anyone out there where these 1920s-30s duds while hunting or am I the lone nostalgia goofball? |

I don't know if there are many folks in to vintage attire for hunting on this board but there will be a whole bunch of folks wearing period clothing this weekend at the Vintagers. |

Hey Baden,
Check out the Cabelas on line catalog, the Filson online catalog, and the Orvis online catalog. They have what you are looking for but it ain't cheap.

Be prepared to spend at least 1K for english shooting breeks, jacket, vest, cap,and accessories. This doesn't include boots or Wellies. For the more "colonial " look don't overlook antique clothing stores- they're a good source for pants and coats as well as old fedoras. Old hand me down clothes from your grandfather's time are also hiding in old closets perhaps?
Good luck on your quest. |

You know what? I think it would be a blast to hunt in attire like that. Of course you will raise some eyebrows, but who cares? Isn't it all about having a good time, respecting the tradition, and creating lasting memories? Also, I wouldn't dress like that if I was shooting a Browning Cynergy, but most any sxs would work I would imagine.
More power to you, and if/when you figure out where to get vintage hunting clothes on the cheap, pm me and let me know. |

UDF: Sent a PM.
Guys, I'm going with a Filson jacket, Model 1912 khaki army breeches and LL Bean 16-inch laceup Maine guide boots. It may not be Edwardian, but it's the look on the 16GA.com home page. |

Looks like we may be getting a new "Poster Boy" for 16ga.com
Of coures we will neet photos and a poll, or perhaps we could sponsor a TR look alike contest. |

Give Russell Moccasin's a call. These are 14-inch, but they will build you anything you want. Moleskin trousers are a nice touch, not to mention comfortable.

The only thing vintage about my old hunting clothes is their age |

Filson and Russel's are a great combination.
I wear a double oiled tin vest, single tin unoiled shirt, and double unoiled tin pants from Filson. The shirt you will have to custom order because it is no longer a regular offering.
I started with double oiled tin cloth 30 years ago but its just too stiff, even after all these years and it shrunk(I admit I really gained weight). My son has the stuff now.
We both have Russel upland boots and they are like slippers.
The Brit look is for the Brits. So if you are contemplating a driven hunt or attending the Vintagers, go for it, but make sure you have a Brit double trigger gun.
BTW, Filson has been sold and is rapidly outsourcing its production offshore, so if you want Filson USA, I suggest you purchase now.-Dick |

Bud:
I am very sorry to hear that Filson has been sold and is moving offshore. I still have the timber cruiser's vest I bought 35 years ago for a summer job cruising timber in the redwoods of Northern California. It's now tattered and stained with the blood of countless quail, chukars and pheasants, but it is still serviceable. The news stuff may be well made, too, but the tradition will have drained out of it.
I'm not so much into the Brit look as I am the classic post-WWI American birdhunter look of my grandfather's era. Here in the Northwest, that included Filson as well as Pendleton. |

Baden Powell , my brother, are you acquainted with Fredrick Russell Burnham? He happens to be one of my personal heros. |

That clothing is all the members at Hudson Farm wear, especially when doing the tower shoots. |
