| Today marks the opening of pheasant season in Minnesota. After anxiously waiting all week to see if my buddy had to work, last night I got the bad news. Now being the good friend he is he offered to let me take his two English pointers today, but I just didn't feel good about that. So I took my 8 year old Springer (chip) instead. Now Chip has never really been hunting and I did only do some basic things with him as a youngster so I didn't expect much. Wow was I suprised! He's a natural born hunter. After about 20 yards and the just getting the old 1100 16ga. loaded the first rooster flushed! Were on the board. We went probably another 100 yards and he flushed a couple of hens! And shortly after he flushed another hen and rooster which gave me my limit. This was probably the most memorable 15 minutes of hunting I've ever had (and just maybe a little lucky). |
