Look at what the 16ga Merkel did today. Very Happy
My brother and I hit one of the preserves in Pa. Hey, it's the only pheasant hunting we have here in the east.
We had a great day. Ended up with 12 birds. We missed 2 and by 11AM it got hot enough and the dogs were tired so we quit.

These are 2 tired Drahthaars after getting home. The one in the back, Reba, was also sacked out until I approached to take the pic. Smile

Congrats! A well run preserve can be a lot of fun.

This preserve gets $125 for either 6 roosters or 8 hens. There are also plenty of leftovers running around all season including chuckars.

In some places the lack of or poor quality hunting means preserves are the only ay to go.Congrats to a good time Wink

No, this particular preserve does not offer memberships. Nice place in the rolling farmlands of eastern Pa.

They also have very good cover and release a LOT of birds during the year. Many hold over through the spring and summer. You can see them running around in the fields and on properties in the area.

Up until this year the price was $99 for either 6 roosters or 8 hens. But that had not been raised in about 4-5 years so all is fair. It was time with the cost of food and everything going up.

I hit this place 6-8 times a season in addition to the state lands here in NJ almost everyday Nov thru Dec. during the week. Weekends I hit the gun club I belong to. Very Happy

Ahhh, three of my favorite things...Merkels, pheasants and Drahthaars.

Good work.

Tjc,

Care to share the name of the preserve? I live 15min south of Harrisburg and would like to find a preserve that is run well. Haven't found it yet. I don't mind driving an hour or two if the place is worth it. Thanks

Marcus

UC,

The preserve is Powderbourne.

Check it out at www.powderbourne.com

The people are so so but the cover is good and the birds are great. They lease a bunch of fields from farmers.
$125 for 6 roosters or 8 hens. We usually put out 1 set of each when we go. That way we get a couple extra birds as well as a couple of birds with color. Very Happy

Thanks for the tip. My brother and I are taking my father (72) for a preserve hunt for his birthday. Might have to try Powderbourne.

Marcus,
I'm sure he'll love it there. I'm heading out there tomorrow morning for another round of birds. Very Happy
