Took a trip north in the home state for a change. Went to Crossfork,PA Beautiful mountains and scenery. But the cover was thin and so were the birds 4 Grouse flushes and 1 Woodcock. However it was enjoyable and I got a good photo of Wyatt and a nice picture of the 1923 Ideal grade LC.

I had heard much about the gaining popularity of the pudelpointer, but they are a rarely-seen breed out here. In fact, I've never seen one "in person" (or "in dog") as the case may be!

I was most interested to see your picture and I've gotta say that is a fine looking dog! I hear they are good pointers and retrievers and are about as much at home in a duck blind as in a field full of quail. If so, this is a dog that will catch on given a bit of time!

I know they will catch on but I must say I dread it. That will be the downfall of the breed. Right now they are Guarded and bred correctly by experts with guidance of NAVHDA,CAPA and the North American Pudelpointer alliance. Once they are popular AKC will get involved and thats the end of the breed as we know it. Back yard breedings with papers that mean nothing and testing and culling out the window. With an AKC registerd dog there are no tests no physical exam no dna testing nothing. No expert ever judged or looked at the dog and no expert approved the breeding That will be the end of a good thing. Birdswatter when are you passing through and where?

Ppointer, I agree. We (collectively) just need to say NO AKC and stick to it.

I have a month off and I'm planning a driving trip similar to one I did about 4 years ago. California to Michigan/Pa/W.Va. visiting family, deer/bird hunting and fishing. Then back through Idaho and home. I'll also be doing some more scouting for retirement locations.

In Pa. I will be in the Uniontown (southwest) area.

With this new laptop, I will hopefully post from the road with photos.

The big difference will be I have a Pudelpointer accompanying me this time......should be interesting!

Pudelpointer, the AKC does not solicit breeds for recognition as far as I know. It is the breed club that solicits the AKC. What we have to worry about is some group of PP owners forming a club that will adopt a "standard" and seek AKC recognition. I hope it never happens.

Bill I agree I hope it stays an unknown in the shawdow's breed. And thanks for the info on the AKC. I just don't like how they register dogs with no test or examination of any kind. How can you keep a standard and better the breed?

Pudelpointer, actually NAVHDA registers dogs with no requirement to pass a minimum standard test. However, NAVHDA does not have conformation shows which is the part of the AKC that draws people to a breed that have no interest in hunting or field work. The PP as a breed has been doing unusually well in spite of the fact there are several independent groups promoting the breed; the Breeders Alliance, CAPA, PCNA, the German Club and some breeders who are independent of all of them.
