My son and I hunted hard this weekend but were only able to bag 3 wood ducks; he fired on a flock of woodies yesterday and a single today, and we both sneaked up on a flock of woodies this afternoon and dropped one bird apiece. I was using my Merkel 1620 with the Bismuth 1 1/8 oz. of 4's and this proved a successful combination.

We were disappointed in the fact we've seen only 2 mallards so far, and it's almost the first of November. Pheasant season opens here next weekend and we'll hunt all day Saturday before leaving for South Dakota very early Sunday morning.

Wolfchief,
Give the duck season a chance The northerns will move and the hunting will be better when others focus on the Holidays. I recently returned from the Dakotas and contrary to reports the the pheasants are not everywhere. I remember a c hour or so that we didn't see any.

Seriously hunt the cover near food plots and you will do fine if you are planning on being in southeast SD.

Enjoy your time with your son and the rest doesn't matter.
