I was lucky enough to hunt both Sat and Sun this weekend.
My 11 month old Brittany female Parker pointed 7 Pheasants on Sat (6 bagged)
1 Pheasant on Sun (zero bagged) but a glorious day none-the-less.
I hunted day one with my Merkel 1620.
I took a couple of long shot (40 yards or so) and the birds really folded with that Mod choke and a #5 Golden Pheasant.
Here's a few photos.

OK, I have had enough of you and your fantastic pictures!
You got to teach me how to do that!
Another great set of photos, Roger O/U |

Roger Over Under - how you liking that Merkel 1620 for upland hunting? Anything in particular to compliment or criticize?

Thanks guys, much appreciated.
The barrels on Merkels have a lighter feel than other guns. Carrying it is different than, let's say a Spanish gun.
The stock, while fairly slim, has a bit more to it than an Spanish or English double.
You don't get that "keeping the barrels up" feel.
It has true central balance.
At under 6lbs the 1620 is a pleasure in the field. That to me is the true benefit of the 1620.
I like Merkels, but if it wasn't as light (or lighter) than most 20ga's I wouldn't be as in love this gun. Having all that bang, with less shotstring and that nice 'globe' pattern at 1oz or a bit more.
It does give you a magic combination.
I like light guns.
I have a 12ga that weighs 6lbs 4oz.
My closest 20ga is 6lbs 1oz.
This gun weighs 5lbs 15oz.
Solid as a rock. That can't be overstated.
This gun is, by far, the most indestructable gun I've seen.
Enjoy, Roger. |

roger O/U,
thanks for your reply.. i always like to hear personal feedback about "why" for preferences.. i appreciate your thoughts.. i'd like to own one myself. heard lots of good things.. look forward to feeling one in my own hands (that is what I truly believe matters b/c we each have a "different sense" of what feels right.
again,
nice photo's, hope our paths cross someday. i'd love to handle that 1620 and hunt over your pup.
cheers

You know it's my pleasure guys.
Parker has added a whole lot to my life.
She's the best dog I've ever had.
That's an Ugartechea Grade I on the stairs there.
I love this 1620. The wood slays me.

Very nice guns, dogs, pics and story. Thanks!
Those pictures could be out of a high end sporting goods brochure. I love red over white Brittanys
Best,
Mike |

Heck of a nice piece of timber on that gun Roger.

Roger,
Great looking pooch and nice gun too.
I have a good looking 1620 also but I hunt with Ugly Dogs, Drahthaars.
Nothing beats a day in the field with your pooch(es) and a quality firearn. |

Would love to see pictures of both.
But mainly the Drahthaars.
What a great story those dogs have.
Roger. |
