I enjoy skeet shooting for fun, and would like to be able to take my 16 gauge and practice with it at the range. Is there an appropriate, reasonably priced brand of 16 gauge ammo I can purchase off the shelf for skeet shooting? I know people reload their own shells for this purpose, but I have no interest in that.

I use the Remington RGL in the 1 0z. load with #8 shot. Sure makes the clay disappear, although I'm not sure how economical it is.

Bisbeeaz:

Big 5 in Tucson has RGL 16's. I don't know if Sierra Vista has a Big 5 ?

The Phx. area has several Big 5's. I just bought a flat they were on sale.

No matter what you go with-I would use the Remmy game loads--save the empties. You can sell them to offset the cost of not rolling your own Wink

I don't reload, either. My shells for skeet, in order of preference, would have to be:

Win GLs
Rem GLs
Estate GLs
PMC GLs
Fiochhi GLs

All of the above in 1 oz of 8 through through an open choke (C or IC) will grind 'em up just dandy on a skeet field. I see any of the above at a good price, I grab some flats. Where I live, shooting 16 GLs for clay games -- even when you pick up the flats without a sale or a coupon -- is only about buck per box more expensive than shooting Rem Gun Clubs in 12 or 20. A small price to pay if you love the gauge.

I know Cabela's and Dick's right now are both sending out coupons for X off purchases of XX or more. I put 'em toward shells. No worries.

Thanks for all the helpful replies!

As far as Sierra Vista goes, there IS a Big 5 there, but I'm not sure they carry 16 gauge shells/ Might be time to head to Tucson!

Call Big 5 first. Thats what I do, have them hold them for me.They will pull them and put your name on the boxes. Number eights is all that they stock in 16 RGL, and one ouncers.
