Hey guys,
My dad turns 60 this spring so I am trying to come up with some sort of a milestone gift. My disposable income isn't as great as his, so it's hard to come up with something he would like that he doesn't already have.

I'd like to spend around $100 or less, but could possibly spend as much as $200 if something struck me as ideal. He's a 16er, a trap and sporting shooter, a duck hunter, and (gasp!) a lawyer. Outside of all that, he's a pretty good guy! (chuckle, chuckle)

How 'bout one of those really nice leather whistle/call lanyards? Something he could keep and use forever, and you'd get to use it after he's gone. They ain't cheap though. Here's one source:

Lots of shooting accessories at that price, the trick is finding out which ones he wants but doesn't already have especially if he shoots that much. Look through the ads in the shooting magazine and the Shotgun Sports website should show the items they're always selling in the mag.

You didn't say anything about deer hunting, but if he does hunt with centerfire rifles you might look at ammo wallets if he doesn't already have a favorite way of carrying shells. Some are worn on the belt, some on the gun and others are just carried in a pocket. Check out Cabela's website under hunting accessories, ammo cases and shell holders.

I'm about your Fathers age and my son took me out to a very nice Sporting Clays range for my last birthday.

The targets were great but being out shooting with him was priceless.

I find that while things are nice time spent together and the memories made during these time are more precious than gold.

Hey Dave,
I stopped and talked to you last year at the SxS shoot. I got him a t-shirt from the shoot for fathers day and that pretty well sealed the deal - he says he's coming this year! We'll look ya up.

For my 60th, my son-in-law took me to a local game farm for a pheasant hunt. We got to work my dog, shoot some birds and have a relly great time.This year was the third we'd done it now and I really look forward to it.The timing is off with your dads spring birthday but you could give him a nice card with an IOU for a fall hunt.

I will turn 60 this year and I would enjoy "doing something" with my son more than any gift, regardless of the price.

I am with the others, take him shooting, hunting, whatever. Just get your guns, a lunch or snacks, and hit the field. My time in the field with my dad will always be with me.

Take it from another 60 year old guy. Quality time is the way to go on or as close to his birthday as possible, I dont like the IOU thing. Make a day of it.

Take him on a hunting or fishing trip. Or maybe a nice pair of waders or good quality hunting boots.

I am not sure where in the UP you reside, but Black Duck Sporting Clays and Hunting Preserve is a quality operation. Black Duck is in the Rapid River / Gladstone area. It is a great place to spend some time with your dad shooting clays or birds.

If you dad is a fisherman, you can't beat a trip to the Bays De Noc for some fishing. Kevin Lee, owner of Sal-Mar Resorts, guides on both Little and Big Bays. He runs a first class operation and he guides for walleye, bass, pike, you name it. Best on the bays, IMO.

Day shooting Sporting Clays, pheasant/chuckar hunt at a preserve, couple rounds of trap, Cabela's Gift Card to name a few. Wink
