While browsing the various boards today, I was floored to hear that one of my favorite outdoor writers and TV hosts had passed. 'Grits' Gresham, father of own Brother 16'er, Tom Gresham, passed away Monday of this week.
I'll always remember him on the "American Sportsman" outdoor show or the Miller Lite Commercials. I owned and read several books he penned; and for my money, was in the same class as Hill, Trueblood, and Reiger when it came to writing a story. What he did for conservation in more recent times and his own contributions to his home state of Louisiana is immeasurable. I especially loved his book on water-fowling. It reminded me of the times when I was growing up in East Texas-duck hunting in the Sabine River bottoms- not that far from his stomping grounds in Natchitoches, LA. I visited Natchitoches numerous times in my 20's while visiting a cousin in nursing school there. I was tempted to call him, but was too shy. I'm sorry I didn't now.
My deepest sympathy goes out to Tom, his brother Kent, his sister Barbara, and the Gresham family. |

Grits was one of the guys that we all revered as kids. His shows gave us something to dream about. Some of the places weve gone as adults are because of the seeds he planted. He'll live on in a lot of our memories.

It seems like he's been around for as long as I can remember, and I always wished I could go to the places he went. He will be missed. |

He was my absolute hands down favorite outdoor personality. He set the standard in public persona that all hunters should strive for. To me he will always be the ICON of the outdoor world. Happy hunting Grits. |
