I recently took my 9-year-old son and 9-year-old nephew shooting sporting clays with a 16 gauge of course! My brother and I took the boys to a local shooter friendly range that has a self-guided course. Rather than taking several guns I only took my Bill Hanus bird gun choked skeet and skeet. The boys and I all shot the gun with some low recoil 7/8 ounce reloads. I am pleased to say both boys scored in the double digits with a 10 and 11.
We were a slow group that had to allow several other groups to “shot thru” but all shooters treated us with respect and several commented on how happy they were to see the young boys shooting.
I was pleased to passing the love of the 16 gauge along to the boys. They had a great time shooting and of course didn’t complain about the soda and candy bar at the clubhouse. At was really a rush to see how happy they were to bust a bird.
If you have the chance to every take any kid shooting DO IT! |

Good for you, 16crazy. Those youngsters are the future of our sport. |
