I like the Federal 1 ounce game load. The load is 1185 FPS and it burns very clean. I know Federal is not as boutique as RST but the loads work very well on game. |

Here in the States RST for one. If you can find them Gamebore and B&P.

I was under the impression that the B&P 16ga hunting loads (F2 Classic) were a higher pressure load--certainly more than the RSTs. Am I wrong? |

I don't think pressure is the issue here as much as the backtrust of recoil. Higher pressures do not necessarily translate to higher velocities. I'd vouch for any AyA to handle modern load pressures safely. The barrels and breeching systems of AyA guns are hell for stout. The weak spot is the wood or rather, the lack of it in the inletted areas of a sidelock. The higher velocity loads can and will stress the wood in these areas.
Sticking to lower velocity loads will do the trick. Moderate use of 1 ounce, 1200- 1250 FPS loads would do very well. 1-1/8 ounce loads at 1100 FPS or slightly less will work as well if the shot selected is a bit bigger for the added inertia it carries. It is harder hitting, and better penetrating. |

I used the Fiocchi GP in #4 and #5 shot last fall on South Dakota pheasants in my Arrieta with no problems. I don't think I would feed the gun a steady diet of them, for the 20-25 shots I took out there, they worked fine.
Recoil with those buggers is a bear on my 6lb sxs, but on game, I don't really notice it. Now, on targets, you're talking a different game. |
