Does anyone have any experience with the strap on recoil pads, secured with velcro? Galazan has at lease two types.

I have a 16 ga. L. C. Smith that is a little short on lop. I have not decided what I want to do long term and am looking for a short term fix. I am not crazy about slip ons, and I want it to be stable.

Any suggestions, comments?

Hello, The nice leather ones with velcro closure are wonderful, I think that they are well worth the money, Mike

I use one pad on three guns. Works great.

I've used several types on several different guns, and the type you describe is very good. The sims works very well, also (for a slip-on), but is probably the uglier of the three...the third being the higher end pachmyar, with the hard plastic heel cap....it looks better than the sims, worse than the leather/velcro one, and all three work well. If you have some rubberized or closed cell foam around, you can cut spacers to adjust length of pull and insert them inside the pads before you slip them on, too....in a pinch, if even more length is needed....just gorilla gun-smith solutions from a redneck, though.LOL

Thanks for the feedback.

I was ready to order one tonight, then decided to get a few opinions first.

Galazan's has a black leather type in their discontinued section for $25.00 and their brown leather one for $38.00. I like the looks of the brown and the price of the black

I have two Pachmyar leather slip ons. They are stable as long as you get the right size for your gun.

I have a correctly fitter Galco pad and do not like it. While the Galco pad is trim, it still extends up the stock much more than a normal pad. The pad just seems like another item to interfere with good gun mount while shooting low gun. Kinda like an open shirt pocket. I spent the money on the pad, but ended up cutting the stock anyway and adding a pad to get the proper LOP that I wanted making for a clean, unobtrusive, and easy to mount pad. The slip on pad in my opinion is for a loaner gun that I might only shoot once or twice and never again.
