I put myself on the waiting list for the next R16 order through Recob's, but have no idea when or if it will happen.... Anybody have R16's they are willing to sell?

Thanks,

Jim

DonG, The easiest way to acquire reloading data for the R16 wad is use any 1 0z. load recipe for a WW-16AA wad and substitute the Remington wad. With moderate to slow powders, you might wish to add 1/2 grain for any load except absolute max loads. This applies to any case type.

Velocities and pressure will be somewhat less, especially in the polyformed cases available today. load a few and listen for weak sounding reports. If you get any, add a 1/2 grain to a grain of powder for the next test batch until all the shells fire with a good report. However, do not add more than 10% to any recipe unless the data for a higher velocity load using the same componants and powder shows that more is ok.

You can also use any of the recipes for the SP-16 wad with one 28 ga., 1/8" thick card in the bottom of the shot cup. This is the equivilent of an R-16 wad. For R16 based subgauge loads of 7/8 and 3/4 ounce loads, use one or two of the 28 ga. card wads and 16-17 grains of Green Dot in a Remington hull, and 16.5 to 17.5 in the bigger polyformed cases.

Some old reloading books call for the R16 wad in the obsolete WW 16 ga. AA compression formed 1 piece case if you have any kicking around. This data was from before the time Winchester came out with their 16 ga wad. It can still be used as printed.

However, do not load any of the old Remington fiber base wad hulls calling for a #57 primer. This sized primer has not been made in several decades. Most of these cases are at least 30 years old and should be tossed out. Do not try to seat 209 primer in them. It is bigger and will crack the base wad. This creates a dangerous condition, which could lead to injury to you and you gun.

Any Remington 16 ga. case that uses a 209 size primer has a plastic base wad and can be used for any recipe calling for the modern Remington case type regardless of the number of crimp folds and case color. they all have the same internal capacity. The R16 wad will work very well here. 1 oz. loads using 19-21 grains of Unique are very good performers.
