You put a French barrel on an 870?

Huh. You think you know a guy.

Made in France? I didn't know that....bought it through Cabela's. Maybe I need to start looking for a Robust or maybe a Darne!

I think all Hastings barrels are made by Verney-Carron. Hence all the markings on the bottom...

Let's see the 24" barrels will perform as far as loads go, but they will fall short when talking follow through momentum, the look will be that of a coach/cowboy action shooter, as far as feel it will probably be butt heavy due to the short barrels.

I don't think there's much chance that this gun will be noticeably butt heavy. The balance of my 16 ga. BPS upland with 24" barrels is decidedly barrel heavy. Overall length is the same as my SXSs with 28" barrels. The long BPS frame, magazine tube and large rib -- not to mention shells in the magazine -- put most weight forward. I don't recall exactly, but the balance point is more than 5" forward of the trigger.

It sounds as though the buttstock is being thinned down a bit too. The balance and handling of this gun could be very nice.

I think the gun looks fine with the 24" barrel. It would look a little better and be a bit lighter if the magazine tube was shortened as was done with the Remington Special Fields.

I think it's an excellent effort. The plain barrel, silver receiver, and straight stock should make it top out below 6.5 lbs. Although I prefer doubles, this would be an excellent quail, grouse, hun and chukar gun, where fast handling is needed, and a great backup gun. Well done Charles, thank you. If I had the extra $, I would definitely get one.

Do members need to do anything to enter the lottery, or are we automatically entered?
