Hi All,

This is the first post and I'll waste no time with a my first questions but I'll tell you that I have been a long time visitor to the forum and finally got myself a 16ga Superlight after reading many posts here. It is a steel frame so I hope I don't have any issues that I have read about with the alloy frame Citori's.

I have looked though some of the old posts and from what I can find it looks like Briley, Trulock & Colonial Arms are the only manufactures of aftermarket chokes. Are there any other makers/recommendations? I am thinking of getting Skeet I(.663) and Skeet II(.657) as I don't take many shots over 35 yards. I plan to use gold pheasant 5 shot and Kent 7.5 shot for early part of the season. I primarily hunt Pheasants, Ruffs, Sharptail and Huns. What are your thoughts?

I'd put in your factory IC/Mod and pattern them at your expected distance with both types of shells. From there you'll have an Idea of where to go if you are not satisfied. Briley makes the browning chokes, so if your not changing them much go with the briley flush mount. Or I think browning markets a skt choke too.

I have had the IC/Mod combo in my 525 since I got it two years ago, and have never changed them. Shoot clays and hunt a little. Seems to get the job done!

If it ain't broke, don't fix it!

Factory chokes are all I use in my Sweet-16. As said try them first.

I've used the Briley's for years in my Citori, they pattern very well.
The extended chokes are a little pricey but well worth it.

Why are the extended chokes worth the extra money?
Do they pattern better than a standard choke? If so, How?

Dave,

I've got a Citori 16 Superlight like yours with 26" barrels. I'm thinking of getting the extended tubes just to add a little more length and weight to the muzzle for skeet.

And If that works I'll probably just leave them in for quail and pheasants.

I have found for preserve birds over a pointer that Browning's cyl & skeet flush choke tubes worked very well in my 16 gauge Browning Lightning Feather with Golden Pheasant #5s. I tend to shoot the birds fairly close in and those tubes killed effectivly without chewing the bird up too much. I sold this gun a few months ago.

My other guns all have Briley choke tubes. The extendeds are convenient in that a wrench is not needed to change the chokes out, but I doubt they pattern any better than the flush chokes.

I have two Brownings and I have bought several chokes from Briley. They have cyl, skeet, IC, m, IM, and full. I have been completely satisfied with them. Just get on their web site and order them. They have the black oxide and stainless ones.

I bought the extended black oxide chokes from Briley .. cyl,2 -skeet,mod and full. I put in the cyl and skeet and have not taken them out .... hunt pheasant over a pudelpointer .... they work well. I got the mod and full for late season birds but have not used them (yet).

Hi Guys,
Just got a 16 superlight myself. Steel frame and 28" barrels. Love it. Gamiela Shooting Supply has some Browning 16 ga. chokes in stainless. Mine that came with the gun are black. Does any one know what the difference is? Is one better than the other? Also, how do the Golden Pheasant loads pattern? They look good, but seems that some don't think they pattern well. If they seem to pattern ok, what chokes do you shoot them through?

this is getting off the original topic, BUTI have never been very happy with those Golden Pheasant loads. Have had a bunch of failure to shoots, they seem errataic and spendy. I have settled on Federal 1 oz loads when I shoot factory stuff, and home cooked 1 oz loads when I dont. I spend at least 100 days per year in the field, hunting upland birds, and havnt found that I need anything more. I shoot about the same load in my (horrors!) 12 bores...

Dave,
They pattern about the same as the regular chokes.
I like them for the convenience factor. ( Easier to change in the field.)

I shoot the Fiocchi FPs and love them. Not saying I can't shoot other shells and get the same results but they work very well in my guns. I've found great penetration with them and patterns are good with 40yd kills no problems if I do my part.
I usually have Skt1 and Skt2 in my 1620 but will towards the end of the season change the Skt2 out for Mod.

Thanks everyone! I patterned mod and imp cylinder at 30 yards yesterday I think they'll work. Shot some clays afterward and hit 24 of 25 so I think it will work just fine. Thanks again.
