I'm not shooting to well with my Citori Lighning. It was suggested that it might be too short since it does not have a pad on it. Does Hi viz or Limbsaver have a prew fit model. I realy dont want to take it to a gunsmith.
Before I get one I was thinking about trying Limbsavers slip on to see if that helps.
Also has anyone tried a gooey pad?
Thanks

Try the $10 slip on first to be sure that is what you need. Also gives you an idea of exactly what length will work best. |

I sure hope that's not true, as must of my guns don't have pads.
I hate to think I've been shooting guns with to short a LOP. |

We we were shooting sporting clays off a NRA trailer. I missed almost every shot with a low gun. When I mounted a realy tucked my head down on the stock I would break them.
I realy hope this is the problem as there is no way I could afford to have the gun fit to me.
I dont want the pad for recoil issues just to add length. |

I bought a used Citori 16 gauge Lightning Feather that already had a pad on it. I had the LOP adjusted for me with a new Limbsaver pad ground to fit the gun. I also had a Browning adjustable position target trigger put on the gun. Helped with the fit and the recoil. |

According to my recent fitting, I've been shooting too short of a LOP for all of my life. I'm paying more attention these days and have improved my numbers and confidence. I never wondered about LOP until I started getting into higher grade firearms that make you think twice about a purchase mistake.

My statement was kinda tongue in cheek.
"It was quoted that it might be too short, since it does not have a pad.
Kind of a stupid statement, the way I took it.
Maybe I just read more into things than are really there.
Like I said, most of my guns don't have pads, and I really don't like them. |

Hello All,
Ken, how tall are you and how long are your arms?
Why do you think the current pull is too short? What is the pull on this gun?
As for pre-fit pads, I do not know of any for a Citori.
By this time, have you tried a slip on pad?
Enjoy the day

A trial of one of those leather pads that fasten tight with Velcro might be helpful. The pads are not expensive and look good enough to stay on. I use a couple and have been pleased with them on my guns. |

Some 20 years ago I was afforded the privilege of attending a rifle shooting
clinic given by Col. Jeff Cooper at his Gun Site ranch. The late- great Col.
Cooper made the following observation, " Most American shooters need to cut an inch off their factory rifle stocks , and most need to add an inch to their factory shotgun stocks."
From my personal experience with both rifles and shotguns, I would
have to agree. My rifles have an average of 13.5 inch LOP depending on stock design. My trap and field shotguns have an average of 14.75 inch
LOP.
Good Luck.... Rabbitdog |

I'm 5'10". The gun is stock,I have not modifed it in any way. It was suggested by someone else that the gun may be to short.
I havnt tried anything yet, gotta wait for payday.
I'm hoping a pad will help. It sure cant hurt anything. |

Ken before you go thrashing about in the dark why don't you pattern your gun. 15 - 20 yards will tell you where you are hitting the target in relationship to where you are pointing. (yeah I said pointing cause you point a shotgun as opposed to aiming a rifle). Make a 3" mark on a 36"x36" or larger sheet of paper. Back off to you chosen distance and bring the gun to shooting position. As soon as you acquire the target in this case the mark on the paper fire the gun. Repeat 4 or 5 times using the same target and you will get a better idea of what is happening to your shot. Unless you have practiced a whole bunch shooting low gun targets can be frustration. I'm more inclined to believe that your problem is an improper and or inconsistent gun mount. A little coaching might be the answer to your problem. |

Do you do this on low gun as well? You found your own problem, bad mounts.
At 5'10" I doubt the gun is too short. |

Thanks for all the advice.
I do need to pattern it.
I dont seem to get consistant mounts with this gun. I dont get the shoot very often. That doesnt help much.
Nobody comented on the gooey pads. I guess no one has tried one? |

I have two limbsavers. They are for recoil reduction. I would not use one for extra length. They are sticky, especially for low gun. They do a great job at recoil reduction. One of my limbsavers is on my son's 870 20 ga. 5 1/2 lb gun. He needed it. My other is an R3 on my 1187. I love it.
I don't think there is a prefit for a Citori. But for $70-$100 one could be fit or do it yourself. I did do my son's 870. Not perfect, but functional. |
