Thanks Charles for all you have done. I will shortly be 67 myself and since i live in NY with the ammo control act and over 50 other antigun legislation
bills on the legislative docket dont know for how much longer i will be able to reload in this state.

If that is production rate then it behooves all of us to take a small order first in order to let everybody have some quick. |

I sent Down Range an e-mail a day or two ago asking about availability. If/when I get a response, I’ll pass along any information I get. |

Charles,
Will the new 16 Gauge 3/4 - 7/8oz. wad from Downrange, fit between the
rammer tube and the wad guide on MEC Progressive Reloading presses?
I hope so, they look a little too long, from powder cup to shot cup. If
not maybe the rammer tube could be shortened on the large diameter end.

I load all my 3/4 ounce loads on a MEC Grabber. Nick sent me a bag of 25 to try last summer. I found it helps to slip the shot cup up onto the rammer tube a bit before you drop the wad base into the wad guide. Once this is done, then just ram it home. The rammer tube helps keep the wad in line so you will be less likely to fold a petal and spill shot.
I am a leftie, but I find it very easy to slip the wad in place with my right and almost simultaneously ram it with my left. Like most lefties, I'm about ambidextrous. Most lefties are in this rightie's world. However, I think any rightie coordinated enough to hit a moving target with a shot gun will find it easy to do the same with a bit of practice. If anyone has not been operating their MEC progressive in this fashion, they will find it speeds things along very nicely and realy helps keep the spilled shot to a minimum. It is manditory for operateing a MEC 28 or .410 Grabber.
Shortening the rammer tube won't help at all and is not necessary. It already has enough upward adjustment to set it perfectly. I think shortening the ram will only add to one's problems, not solve them. Hope the info helps. |

Does anyone use wad pressure? I use only enough that it barely registers on the rammer tube scale. That was my concern, not only that the wad fits easily under the rammer tube, but also not imparting any real wad pressure, past seating the wad fully on the powder.
My reasons are:
Let the gas pressure crush the wad compression section, make the crimp hold wad pressure. If the reloader crushes the legs of the wad, the load won't be as consistent, as when you let the gas pressure crush the legs and make the crimp hold the whole load in place mechanically until the gas pressure overcomes the crimp.
I hate to say it, but the less we as reloaders manipulate the components (and/or add extra components) the more ballistically consistent the loads will be. |

The way Kevin from Downrange explained it on another forum. the pressure on the wad is applied when the shell is crimped. No pressure from the rammer tube. He was talking about one of there wads as somebody was having a problem, but the way I took it was he meant all plastic wads. |
