Hi all,
Need a recommended 1 oz load for Fiocchi hulls, BP SG-16 wad, Fio 616 primer, Unique powder. Main use is trap and clays, #8 shot.
Also, approx wad pressure to use.
TIA,
Brewster |

I am using 20 grains of H- Universal for around 1150 fps and it does all I need for clay targets. The same recipe with Unique will give the same results. |

SPR310 - does that recipe "fill up" a 2 3/4" hull so that you can make a good crimp? I have that recipe listed in my Reloaders Digest, but have been using 22.3 grs of WSF, which is also a listed recipe, as it has the same velocity but only 9300 psi. That is the load that leaves way too much space in the hull that I was talking about in the other thread. Will the unique powder take up more room in the hull?

I just tried one. Had to look for a Fiochi hull. Yes it filled it up and got a good crimp. Myself I use almost the same load, but its 21 grains of Unique in a Win plyformed hull with a BP16 wad and one ounce of shot. I like the win hull better then the fiochi hull myself. Most of the loads I use are listed on this spreadsheet I have. It has hundreds of loads and I've updated some of the information on it. I've sent it to a few people. |

SPR310 - thanks, maybe unique powder takes up more room than the WSF that I have been using? It is worth giving it a try. I, too, prefer the Win polyformed hulls, but could not find any anymore. Where do you get them?

Keith. I bought a flat of winchester shells last year for $40.00. Then I got a good buy on some federal once fired hulls 300 for $10.00 and there were almost 100 of the win hulls in the box also. Lucked out on that one. |

Try the new Claybuster WW16AA wad clone. It is designed for use in any case and definately long enough to fill the Fiocchi hull without using a heavier than comfortable powder charge. The wad will also accomodate a full 1 ounce or of shot as well.
Hopefully, we will be able to buy Nick Hammack's new Downrange 3/4 to 1 ounce wad soon as well. This wad well solve the light target load in the roomy cases very nicely. It is almost a match for the Claybuster but with a shallower shot cup to eliminate the need for filler wads.
1 ounce 16 ga target loads would be just too much for me in anything but an overly heavy 16 ga gun. I will never own a 7.5 pound 16 unless it is left abandoned on my doorstep as a foundling. Since I have nice heavy 12 ga guns for heavier loads, I've also no need for 1 ounce 16 ga target loads. A 7/8 ounce load of #8 shot at 1150 FPS out of a properly choked 16 will smokeball most targets as far out as I can hit them. Past 40 yards, I'll use the heavier 12 thank you. |

Thanks guys - I appreciate all of the help. I talked to Claybuster and their WAA 16 ga clone is supposed to be good for straight-walled hulls and will fully contain 1 oz of shot. He also gave me some recipes for the 1 oz loads with those wads using Unique and Herco powder. They are sending me a 25 sample pack so that I can check them out. Thanks to you guys, I think my 16 ga reloading problems are over! Really appreciate it.

I hope we see Charles' 16ga wads soon as I am down to my last 1000 Gulandi 1621's. I use these in 2.5in hulls with 7/8oz shot. Will these Down Range wads sub for the Gulandi's? Graf & Sons has these about 6 months out of the year and when the're gone, you are SOL for the rest of the year. |

SPR310 - absolutely. I called J-Ron, Inc for the Claybuster information. Phone number is 1(800) 922-6287. These loads are all for Fiocchi Hulls with the Fiocchi 616 primers and, of course, the claybuster WAA16 clone wads. With Unique powder: 19 grs of powder = 1165 fps/8100 psi: 20 1/2 grs of powder=1220 fps/8800 psi. With the Herco powder: 21 grs of powder=1210 fps/8900 psi. Hope this will be of some help to some after all of the help that I have received!
