heading to South Dakota at the end of Oct. Have a new purchase a cutomized 1939 Fox Sterly 16 gauge. 2 3/4 chambers choked light mod and full.
What is a reasonable load factory made out there that this gun can safely handle for pheasants in South Dakota.
I am thinking of doing some choke work and what say you on that option. I am thinking Skeet and Improved Mod. |

In lead, Federal has some options. Fiocchi too. I personally do not care for the Remingtons.
With 2 3/4 chambers you have a lot of options.
If you need to use non-toxic, look to RST, or Kent Tungsten Matrix.
Polwad has good loads for 16ga so does Kent Gamebore, even if some are 2.5" shells, will work just as well out of the sterly.
My advice would only stay away from 1 1/4oz loads. Stick to the 1oz or less. |

On the chokes---I would match the chokes with what you intend to use the gun the most for--Never been fortunate to hunt longtails out west so I hesitate to reccomend a choke option--I always prefer to use spreader loads and leave the chokes alone---kinda hard to put that constriction back in---Good luck on the hunt--I see hundreds of roads killed phez out there when driving thru and am lucky to see one or two here at home per year |

I would purchase some spreader loads from Polywad, see if they work out of your gun first, then you can decide if you want to do choke work.
The Polywads will do the job on pheasants, I like a little more velocity than they give, so I usually load my own, but they will work. Buy the #6 or 7 1/2's spreaders. give them a try! |
