The thread on Spolar vs MEC vs PW got to me thinking. I am fairly new to shotshell reloading and was wondering if the type of press you use, which I guess may determine how the shell is resized, have an impact on hull life. I am thinking in particular about RGL's, Cheddites and Federals, since these are the only hulls available to me.

Flytier,
Buy the best press you can afford. This typically will be the most expensive press as well. |

No, the press has almost nothing to do with case life.
Powder selection and the type and thickness of plastic the hull is made from, for the most part determine reloading life of a hull. |

The life of a shotshell hull is determined more by how much it is used, than by how much it is resized.
Having said that, there is also one other caveat; if you max out your loads for that absolute last foot per second, your case life will be reduced even more quickly.
Load "target" speed loads, and buy the factory stuff for the high speed stuff. You can then reload those hulls too! |
