Shot in the Dark, but here goes.
Anyone have any thoughts on where to start for a TSS 9/8 turkey load for the 16ga?
The 12ga and 20 ga folks have some pretty effective loads developed, so hopefully someone has a starting point.
Thanks for all the input |

TSS 98 load is a tunsgsten shot load mixed of 18 g/cc of #8 and # 9 shot.
The 12ga and 20ga shooteres have developed some loads that are reaching 400 pellets in a 10" circle at 40 yards.
Hope this helps understanding my question.
Thank you |

You gotta be kidding me? Turkey hunting isn't that complicated. Or should I saying killing one isn't that difficult. |

Actually no.
Go to OLDGOBBLER.com and read a bit about the interesting topics that are discussed.
There are members there talking about 60 -70 yard shots.
Go figufere

I thought this Turkey hunting was all about the skill involved with setting up your decoy(s) and calling ole Tom into a reasonable shotgun range. I guess not anymore. Hell if you want long range Turkey hunting just go to Texas and take them at 150 yards with you .223. |

Did not say I wanted to shoot turkeys at long range.
I simplly asked for a starting point to load a Tungsten shot load.
Guess you don't have any input other than to mis-read what was written.
The first responder asked for clarificiation about a Tungsten load.
Read what was written before making off the wall comments.
Have a nice day.

The only 16 gauge tungsten recipes I know are in Ballistic Products 16 gauge manual. |

My comments were not directed at you. My comments were directed at the guys that are trying to get a shotgun to do what it wasn't intended to do and to question the ethics of abandoning or at least stretching the principal of fair chase in our hunting.
I want to make it clear that I am not directly question your ethics but if the shoe fits------. |

Take your shoe and shove it.
I politely asked for some information on a load and you have to run your mouth.
You can take this site and put it with the shoe
Have a great day |

We have killed over 20 turkeys and the furthest was 17 steps.
However, if you want to run you mouth about something that is okay witf us.
There is an a$$hole in every group
Enjoy the shoe |

The loads I wrote about above are actually Hevi Shot. All for Fiocchi or BP hulls from 1oz -1 1/4oz with mylar wraps, 20 gauge felt wads, BP Multi Metal wads. |

Hello NCMr16Gauge :
It sounds like a heck of a load to me , I just know little to nothing about the tungsten loading data , but would like to explore this a might in the future , the size of the shot would be correct with a bit of velocity behind it .
By the way where is the location ( south of queens ? ) that is in your box ?? never quite heard of that country , me being a Hillbilly and all .
Aw shucks some folks just have to have something to say , so come on back and lets visit on this load , I am going to look up the site you made reference to , never heard of them but sounds interesting indeed .
After all I am the one that just killed a bird with #9's and will work on another one if the weather permits this weekend , raining like cats and dogs here and supposed to all weekend .
Regards Charles |

I'm getting ready to order some supplies to reload some shells for next year. I have never used hevishot or tungsten. Which one is better?? Which one is easier to reload?? Which one will kill a gobbler better???
Both hevishot and "tungsten" are tungsten alloy shot. The difference is the density.
Hevishot is 12g/cc (compared to lead at 11g/cc).
The "tungsten" is 18g/cc, such as TSS and the "T98" shot.
The 18g/cc is 50% denser than hevishot, and it's limitations have yet to be determined, since no one has been loading any actual turkey loads with it prior to last year. But results on the shooting range and in hunting situations are almost scary |
