Looks like u had great weather for it. Used to love to breast them out, cross cut into steaks, put in a homemade teriyaki , grill to medium rare.Nummmy |

Please adjust the photo. It appears to be snowy. |

Great weather for hunting geese, but the wirehairs don't look real happy, unless their just sad that the hunt is over. |

First, Thanks to all who helped me post the first photo. It was a challenge. The dogs were cold and a bit sad because I made them sit in the truck while I took the photo. This was one of the highlights of the season. There are not many chances to get geese in my area. Mostly desert. It was a blinding snowstorm and I and the dogs sneaked up on them on the river. It is not easy because to the lack of cover and flat country. Anyway on the last jump I knocked two down in the river and each dog jumped in and retrieved a goose. I say, You can't beat that. Again thanks. Larry |

Great picture and that kind of hunting sounds fun. I wonder how the 16 gauge would do for such large waterfowl. I would think with standard 16 gauge loads it would limit your range but I am sure it can get the job done. |

Awesome!! Thanks for sharing. My vote for the cartoon balloon caption above the dog's; Do we really have to go home? |

Great looking Wirehairs -- such a wonderful breed! We love the pair we have. Smart, sweet, fun and goofy (in a good way) - pussycats in the house, with an "ON" switch you can't believe.
As for geese with the 16 -- I think if you pick your shots, you'll be okay.
I watched my brother shoot a giant Canada with his Citori 16 and I've folded a mature, white-headed blue goose at a fair distance with my Model 12 in 16. I also use it for late-season mallards and pheasants and haven't noticed any difference in my results compared to a 12 gauge.
One caveat -- we were both using Kent Tungsten Matrix for waterfowl, I think the factory steel loads are pretty anemic.
Best,

Now that looks like a good time right there. I've not been brave enough to try hunting geese with a 16 yet, but it obviously gets the job done. Good going. |

Sneaking up to within gun range on waterfowl with two big dogs is a real trick in any weather . Great job, the three of you! Memory for the rocking chair days right there! Congrats |

A 16 will do the job. Especially if you reload and pick your shot. My Griffons are a pair of clowns. They are always making me laugh and most of the time goofing off. But when it's time to hunt they are on alert. Yes sneaking up on geese with two at heel is tough. Most of the time the geese see us and get up too far away. Once is a while the shots are close and productive. Again thanks for the comments. Larry |
