We should be aware that Olin/Winchester no longer manufactures shot shell componants or produces hunting and promo grade ammo in house. It is all contracted offshore at the lowest price. As contracts are renegociated or terminated, the sources and componants can change as well and quite frequently. Remington is now going the same route. This has been true for imported brands of ammo as well.
Reloadability has never been a primary concern for promo and hunting grade hulls anyway, but the hull configurations stayed the same for years and even decades. Those times are pretty much over. Hence my warning to take nothing for granted anymore about your latest batch of reloadable hulls. The hulls might look to be near identical externally, but the base wads and other pertinant features might have changed without any notice. Check the internal features like the base wad shape and thickness, primer cup protrusion, and hull wall thickness by bisecting a couple of hulls first to be sure. Assume nothing from now on. |
