I'm pleased with myself! Went out trout fishing, and stopped in a country store for snacks.

As I'm walking around the store, I looked at the ammo. Lo and behold...!!!

Remington 16 ga shells at 6.99 a box! Old stock would be my guess. Bought 4 boxes. Store owner said he doubted he would sell out soon.

I think I know where I'm fishing this Friday too.

Have to spread this purchase out so as not to upset the Chancellor of the Exchequer (AKA my dear wife Very Happy ) Yes, they have more...

Those little ma/pa stores are great for finding hidden"treasures"--not only ammo but 16 ga. reloading supplies Wink

I haven't been that lucky finding 16ga. ammo but a year ago in South Dakota I found the Browning Superposed shotgun book still in the clear wrapper for 40 bucks. Since I already had one I sold it on ebay. I found another one in Salina Kansas a few months later. I still have that one.

Those small stores have kind and couterous people and they need the business more that the big box stores do.

Regards, Gordon

I am a big fan of any operation that is locally owned and operated. My dollars get recirculated in that community. I only go to a big box as a last resort. The local hardware stores were forced out by a new WalFart in the small town I live in. It pissed me off so bad I drive 15 miles to a True Value in another community. Not dollar smart but I feel better about it.

Antioch, it is in the northwest corner of Lake County on the Wisconsin border. At one time we lived in Evanston.

No, I haven't. In fact I have never heard of it, but I will look it up on the internet.

Thanks.

Was it Remington Game Loads? Please don't take this the wrong way, but if it was, it's not that great of a deal. When I received my RBL in August, the gunshop that had received it had the exact same thing at the same price. The guy said "That's a really good price". I said "Not really, I can get the same ammo at Wal-Mart for $5.99; I'll take two boxes!" Even though I could get it cheaper elsewhere, I bought some to show my appreciation of the store offering a very low transfer fee ($15) and to support my local gunshop.

I've seen similar ammo on sale at Dick's Sporting Goods for $5.47. Keep your eyes open, and you'll find some good deals.

I was up in Koliganek today, and their store is about as small as it's going to get. Saw several boxes of 16 ga. Remington No. 4 lead. They were $24.00 each !!!!!!! I didn't buy any.

Best not to clean them out. Be like the ginseng and mushroom hunters, leave a few for next season.

Having a few odd products around is part of what keeps those little stores in business.

You're probably right about this. I think I'll go look again in a few months.

I think there are three possibilities here.

1. I'm the only one passing through those parts with a 16 ga.

2. There are others but I'm the only one who knows the shells are there.

3. There are others, but they are willing to pass them up at 6.99 per box. (This seems unlikely)
