Hi folks,

I'm wanting to take the plunge in to 16g SxS ownership. Cabela's sells a beautiful Fausti for $3200; the Connecticut Arms RBL-16 is around $3,800.

I suspect the RBL is the superior gun, but really love the looks of the Fausti. I can't find much in the way of information on the Fausti DEA SL 16.

Any advice or guidance is greatly appreciated!!

That being said, I am very pleased with my RBL-16.

I got my RBL-16 choked improved cylinder and modified just after the Memorial Day weekend and have been shooting Skeet with it regularly. I've also done all of my Pheasant hunting with it this year. I am very pleased with it to say the least.

On the other hand the Fausti girls are a lot prettier then Antony!!

Warranty work [if ever needed] would be performed onshore at the 'factory' if you bought the RBL!

Is the DEA a true sidelock?

Sometimes is just depends on the particular specimen. When I bought my 1620 there was just something about that particular gun that I really liked. There was another 1620 there that didn't do it for me along with an AYA #2 that just seemed "dull."

Go with what YOU like because it's only yours in the end.

I would point out that while you certainly can spend $3800 (or more) on the RBL, they can also be had for under $3k. I think mine was $2785, shipping included.

The $200 off for pre-payment is no longer in effect, but that's still $2985, shipping included. I think they're going to stop taking orders at the end of the month, so if you want one you'd better order it soon, or you'll be stuck with the $3800 version they have on hand.

I just saw the Fausti DEA on the Cabela's website. Wow. Nice gun, and a side-plated boxlock to boot, and no gold-plated Liberace tribggers. But it's somewhat apples and oranges. I prefer the classic game gun looks of the Fausti, and its 6.3 oz. weight is superb too. But, the rbl is made in the U.S. and can be had for a bit less $ too, and comes with a nice case.

Tough choice.

Since you're asking I'd go with the RBL hands down --and I am not a big RBL fan.

It's interesting how the RBL looks very, very similar to the Fausti SL Roundbody. However the model with the sideplates leaves me cold. They are like hub caps, designed to look functional but are all flash. To top it off the engraving looks shabby, and because these guns are really boxlocks the sideplates look even more strange because the gun is not stocked to the fences. Just not a very handsome gun that looks like its trying to be an imitation of something that it's not.

On the other hand, with the RBL you can custom order the gun to a certain extent and have what is very close to a "bespoke" gun. Then gun is not a highly engraved SLE, but then again its not pretending to be one either. Rather the goal was to create an American roundbody style game gun. In the English configuration, the style, shape, weight, and feel of the RBL is very hard to beat. The guns above are beautiful examples of how gorgeous these guns can be. I'd suggest getting the RBL over the Fausti or keep looking for another gun. At $3000-$3500 you are getting to point where you have options.
