Hello Everyone,

I own a 16 ga. Citori and I am seriously considering adding a Verona Model 501 16 ga. to the stable.

Can anyone objectively verify whether or not the 501 is on an actual 16 gauge frame? I am looking for a yes or no answer. Is it possible, in this case, to determine once and for all if the gun is on a properly scaled receiver?

I would like to purchase the gun if it would be light enough to carry in the field all day. I once purchased an 870 in 16 and while I shot it well, it wasn't a lot of fun to carry for a full day in the field.

I just want to make an informed purchase.

Yes, it is on a properly scaled frame. I have the Model 503 with 28" barrels and it tips the scales at a very well balanced 6 lbs 12 ounces. Personally, I would not want to go much lighter than this. Remington Game loads generate a decent amount of recoil with this weight of gun.

I have the 501 in 16 gauge and it weighs approximately 7lbs. on my digital fish scale. I also have a Citori 16 that is 6 3/4 lbs. I bought the Verona for my rough shooting. I have handled both the 12 and 20 gauge in the 501 series. The twenty was a little slimmer in the pistol grip than the 12 or 16. The twelve was thick and clubby feeling compared to the 16. I believe the 16 is on its own frame. I can also tell you that you don't want it any lighter than 7lbs. It does seem to kick more than my Citori. It actually feels lighter than it actullay is. I really like it for the money.

Sold lots of Verona's [tho' mostly 20ga] when I worked in a gunshop; I think they represent a great value for the money and what few problems there were with the guns were quickly resolved at no cost to the consumer. I even sold one to my pheasant partner who shoots a Webley and Scott as a spare gun and as a light gun for his sons.

Larry: The first time I saw Verona's was at the Shot Show in Vegas six years ago; they were being distributed by the PMC ammo people and shipping and repair was out of the Reno area. Of late they have been operating out of Vegas but with the return of the last small repair, we were informed that they were no longer inporting that brand. There is still one at Western that you can look at. Parker

Parker: Thanks. I don't know whether to be pleased or dismayed at the thought of another affordable 16 ga o/u only 15 miles away. Guess I'd better check it out though .......

The Verona's are currently being closed out via CDNN. They were selling them for $649 with three chokes, but I do not know how many they have left. I believe the website is www.cdnninvestments.com and then download the catalog.

I ordered a pair of 16's from them earlier this month & after my order they only had 9 left in stock.

I am real pleased with the fit & finish of my guns for the price. Only complaint I have is how stiff they are. But from what I hear from other Verona owners will improve after running some ammo through it.

Haven't shot them yet but hope to get out this weekend...MIKE
