I've been lurking here for a while and haven't posted so here it goes.
I'm trying to learn more about this SxS I've had for a number of years.
It's a 16ga Stoeger Zephyr woodlander with two gold triggers. It's got 24 3/4" barrels which is what confuses me....I can't find anything on barrels this short. It was made by VICTOR SARASQUETA and from what I can tell the barrels are unmolested.
Does anyone have more information on these guns? I absolutely love it and would like to know more of its history. |

First of all, welcome to the site. Since you've been lurking, you know what you're in for - a pretty nice bunch of folks.
As to your gun, 24 3/4 sounds like 63 cm - Euro guns ordinarily have metric barrel lengths.
Stoeger historically has been what one might call a company that imports goods from the "lowest-price source". At one time, pre WWII, they imported German and Belgian guns, many of which were high quality then and still good now. Then, post WWII, probably through the 70s, they imported Spanish guns. Now, their Uplanders are made in Brazil. Yours sounds like a solid Spanish gun. It might interest you to know that today's Spanish guns give the best English guns a run for their money in quality terms, but at a third or less of the English guns' prices.
If it fits you and you shot it well, enjoy it. In all likelihood, you got a solid, well-made gun that will handle a lot of shooting well. |

I was given a fairly new 20 gauge Stoeger O/U that weighs over 8lbs and is a bit rough though it looks brand new. Hey, at least it was free! The older ones HAVE to be better. |

Pictures would help,one of the water table showing proofs as well as the the whole gun. Stoeger imported some pretty nice guns as well as some dogs. Victor Sarasqeta made em in all grades. I had a 20 bore Stoeger import by VS that was a pretty nice gun, back in the late 50's.What does it weigh? |

The name Stoeger in on there because they imported them and Stoeger, in their time, which goes back two the 30s, I believe, have imported, at times, very high quality guns; not like in recent years.
V. Sarasqueta didn't make any junk. Even his low end guns were well made. I would seriously believe the barrels have been cut. Why don't you pattern the gun.
At 20 yds effective pattern size;; don't count flyers.
32" pattern = cyl. choke which is what cut barrels may through.
25"= improved cyl.
20"= modified
Slower loads will pattern a little tighter. |

You have a very good shotgun that was made by a reputable Spanish maker. I had one in a 20ga. and used it for a no. of years. When one of my grandsons turned 12 and liked SxS I gave it to him. Eight years latter he's still useing it every fall and winter.
As far as Stoeger importing so called cheap shotguns, it is more accurate to say that hey imported inexpensive shotguns to expensive shotguns. I have 4 Bernrdelli Sxss imported by Stoeger and the are fine shotguns, all from the 50s and 60s. |
