Can anyone recommend a 1 1/8 oz load, preferably with 20/28 or Green Dot? Looking for velocity of 1250 - 1325. Thanks.

To get a 11/8oz load to 1200fps you will have to use a slower burning powder like Blue Dot. |

Can't recommend but can share from RFS manual, my bud stole my Lymans...
Fed hull, Fed 209a primer,SP16, 19g GD, 1185, 10,600psi
Fed Hull, Fed 209a, WAA16, 18.5g GD, 1185 10,200
From Old Hunters Spread Sheets, which I can recommend you join;
https://uk.groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/reloading16gauge/info
Cheddite 1-1/16 oz. Green Dot 19.0 Ched 209 BPI Z 16 1240 11,000 BPI
Looking through the RFS manual it is pretty obvious that if you want/need to throw that much lead at that those speeds out of a 16ga you might look toward getting some slower burning powders, BD, Herco, 800x, etc. were all listed.
Oh & just in case you're shooting a light field gun, can also recommend;

Best of luck in your search... |

I use Remington Game Club Hulls, Rem SP16 WADs and Longshot for 1 1/8 ounce loads.

Green Dot is a poor choice of powder for 1 1/8oz , and don't think you will get any where close to 1250 fps with it . I know nothing about 20/28 for the 16ga , doubt you will find any data for 1 1/8 oz . Longshot and 800x are much better powders for that application . |

I agree with the others that Green Dot is not ideal for 1 1/8 oz loads, but here's one that has been working well for myself and member Black Belt. He's seriously reduced the rabbit population with these and has crushed a number of pheasants using nickel-plated 6's or 6.5's. I haven't had a chance to use them much because I have so much good factory ammo I'm working through, but he's been praising these loads for years.
Source: Precision Reloading Manual
Hull: Federal
Primer: Win 209
Shot: 1 1/8 oz.
Powder: Green Dot 16.8 gr. (I load 17.0)
Wad: B&P (known as Z16 or Field Commander)
Velocity: 1207
Pressure: 9510 psi
I wouldn't put any more powder in than the 16.8- 17.0 or the pressure will escalate fast. the very low 1200's fps is IT for velocity with Green Dot. That said, these have worked well in very cold weather |

Dave , that looks like a good load , 1200 fps is plenty fast enough and you have tested field experience with it , which I like . I just never though of Green dot for 1 1/8oz , might have to give that one a try , thanks for the info . |

As I have a lifetime supply of HERCO, this is my go-to load. |

BTW it is a constant feature on the spreadsheerts in several variations. |

Thanks, guys. This is the kind of info I need. I have some Blue Dot on my handgun reloading bench, so will try that first. I'll pick up some 800x or Longshot if necessary.
I have a very specific application for these loads.
The vast majority of my 16 ga. shooting is 7/8 - 1 oz. loads at +/- 1,200 fps.
However, after much trial with factory and handloads, I learned that on long, difficult targets on the sporting clays course, I am most successful using Nobel Sport 1 1/16 oz. factory loads at 1,330.
Since my MEC 118 charge bar throws a an actual shot charge of 1 1/16 oz., I reasoned that if I can load that to around 1,300 I will have a pretty good mimic of the NS factory load.
Regarding powders, I use Am. Select for 12 ga target loads and for 3/4 and 7/8 oz. loads in the 16 ga. 20/28 is the trick for 1 oz. 16 ga. and for 20 and 28 ga. When AS and 20/28 ran short, I picked up some Green Dot and that does it all in place of both AS and 20/28.

I like various loads in the above powders but find lately that I am buying more Longshot due to the wealth of 20ga loads available..two birds one stone. |

Dave Erickson,
I don't remember that load. What manual from Precision Reloading did you find it in? |

Mark, I'm glad you asked because I had the wrong primer listed. It's Win209 and not the Fed. 209A.
This is Precision Loading Inc. - Blanks to Supersonics - First Edition
This load is 3rd from the bottom on page 71. |
