Well today is a good day. After being on a prepaid waiting list for a Browning A5 16 gauge January until the end of November when I ended up moving from Iowa to Kentucky, I got a call today from a vendor I was listed with (back in April just in case I needed a back up option) that a 28" model had arrived. I ended paying more than I wanted, but at least I have confirmation that in about a week what has been a 13 month delay will end.
Just had to share with someone. |

Charlie,
Good luck on your move, your sore back, etc. After attending about 20 NWTF conventions in Nashville (and elsewhere) over the years, I've swore off in my old age, or I'd see you there (a different thread).
As far as I know, I picked up the first A5 Sweet that made it to Little Rock in early December, and have used it on seven bird hunts since. For an lover of older classic guns and a shooter of my Citori mostly at birds, the new A5 takes a little getting used to, but it gets high marks from me. With its weight and balance, it's great for quail (other than loosing them ejected Win CF hulls in the sage grass!). I also believe it will be great for Iowa (or KS, NE, etc.) ditch chickens, and can't wait to level down on a few of them next year, God willing. Year's ago, my Iowa pheasant hunting buddy, Charlie, and I flushed four roosters near Iowa City, and we each killed three, mine with my Auto 5! (Do the math on that one--we each killed one clean and then doubled on the last two!). Hope to repeat that with my new A5 Sweet!
Again, good luck. |

Autoloader, lost CF hulls?! There is the real struggle. A small part of me died when I read that. |

I think I only lost a couple. If I could only train my setters to find hulls for me! After they have retrieved dead birds, of course!
The new A5 does put them in the same place every shot. About 5 feet away at a 90 degree angle from the bore. Makes it a little easier to find empties. |

Send me your CF's and I will send you Feds or Herters! Save the CF's I say. Save them from that horrible fade into the obscurity of tall grass! Oh the agony... |

Mine should be here Monday or Tuesday. Might be my only purchase this year as my wife has started a business so not sure the funds will be there until/unless that gets to a stable income point. |

Charlie, you've waited a brutal long time for your SW16. Go get it and enjoy. Everything will work out in the end. |

Thanks for the friendly encouragement Dave. I was so excited for so long last year, then as October came and went I saw my window of opportunity changing. I figure the move cost me roughly $100 to $150 more on the purchase, but the additional time allowed me to set aside that amount.
I have already been contacting Trulock about after market chokes, suggest our members do the same. Here was there response last week:
Sir,
We do not have them at this time. If we do make them it will be after June. Check back with us then.
Thanks

Charlie , I hope you enjoy your gun as much as I have this season . I shot dove with it using the Mod choke and snipe with I/C choke , never patterned either one but both performed well for what I was doing . Did finally shoot some sporting clays with the other day using the I/C choke and had no problems breaking clays out to forty yards with 1oz loads.
I did purchase the SKT , L/M and I/M , I think Dave is right there may be no need for after market chokes . |
