Mayzee pointed and retrieved first bobwhite quail today. Was preparing deer stand, hit one field on way home, four points, finally last point I connected and she retrieved.
I will admit however, that it was with a 28ga.
But proud of her, tomorrow we will hit it hard with my brother and his dog. |

oh, she gets plenty of pats on the head, will sleep between the wife and I tonight, right up in the pillows, but if she keeps on doing what she does, she can stay there |

Funny how the first point of a dog hunting wild birds will burn deep into your memory. I just hope that Abby has forgotten that I missed that woodcock. Gil |

Have seen quail at a couple public areas in SE NE this year and yesterday saw more at a WMA near Lincoln. Pal Gene and I went to a new (to us) area to snipe at squirrels and saw a young man shoot his first quail near the lot we'd pulled into. The guy was walking on his own, flushed a single and collected it, then flushed and missed another. He was excited about his success! He hunts pheasant and said someone had shot his GSP with a .22 this year, so he was kicking them up solo until his pal recovered. |

kgb,
did you ask the man if the guy who shot his GSP was still in one piece.

Dave, he said he never found him. Didn't realize the dog was actually shot at first, just limping. With a 22 it must have been a rabbit or more likely squirrel hunter and the area had lots of squirrels. |
