Sept. 1 is opening day for blue & ruffed grouse here in Wyoming; doves too. I know many other states have Sept. 1 openers for a variety of species. Good luck to all who participate! I'm tired now and going to bed eagerly anticipating doves in the morning and grouse in the afternoon, a long standing tradition. I look forward to hearing how everybody does. |

Our dove season opens at noon today. Can’t find a single person who wants to go. How sad is that? Oh well, I’ll be out there. |

I'd be there for sure - our season in NY is a poach-n-go !NO LIMIT !! It's(a season) been on the highly rated docket for yrs , but subversive interests have always won out . |

I had a fantastic dove hunt this morning. I can't believe I'm 54 and I've never dove hunted before. Now I see why people like it so much. I had to stop one bird shy of my 15 bird limit because I only brought a box of shells, thinking I wouldn't shoot that much. Happily, I was wrong
Here's my first ever brace of doves with my Husky mod. 100 16ga hammer gun:

I didn't go 14 for 25 here, did't have the chance! I took too many shells, but I have found that the best way to shoot poorly is take not enough ammo. 10 for 16, and I am very pleased with that considering I saw only two dove during the first two hours. Off to the mountains we go in search of some gorgeous blue grouse. |

I remembered the camera for the afternoon blue grouse hunt. The hunt went better than hoped and I had much to be hopeful for. A couple of elderly gentlemen I knew were coming back down the mountain on an ATV and gave me a glowing report so I knew the birds were there. Sure enough, I got to scatter shot through the timber soon enough. My shooting average won't make anyone envious. Seven shots fired at four birds. Rusty brought back the three that dropped into the rocks for one final time though. Cool mountain weather complete with the delightful aromas of the forest along with quiet surroundings put an exclamation point to the joy of being there. Rusty continued finding grouse as we walked back to the truck. Life is good on opening day.

Can feed only sunflower seeds to doves in Maine no lead. That will never change.
Just had a lobster truck overturn on the highway killing 7000lbs of lobster. PETA petitioned our DOT to erect a memorial roadside for the deceased crustaceans.
Only in Maine. Good hunting we wait until Oct., crows opened up though. |
