Reached out to Numrich as follows:
I wish to purchase the subject barrel set described as follows: BARREL, 16 GA., 26", W/ EXTRACTOR, IN THE WHITE (NEED FINAL FITTING & FINISHING).
My understanding is that Savage uses the following convention for choke identification:
* Full
** Modified
*** Improved Cylinder
**** Cylinder
Can staff pull the product from inventory and confirm how the barrels are stamped? My existing set has the stamps on the left side of the barrels.
Their response:
The barrels are not stamped on either side.
The Upper Barrel: 0.615" inside diam at the muzzle
The Lower Barrel: 0.629" Inside Dia at the muzzle
My questions to y'all:
Ain't that a little tight for 16 gauge?
Might they have measured a 20 gauge?
For reference:
The originals w/ the gun are as follows:
** @ 0.6505" over *** @ 0.6559
(yes, the last digit is a b.s. estimate of my dial calipers) |

16 Gauge = Bore Diameter of .662 inches.
20 Gauge = Bore Diameter of .615 inches.
If it is a 16 gauge, and I think it might be, you will have plenty of metal to work with
in choking it what you want it to be

Thanks for the response skeettx. Good to hear another put forth the same suppositions I had in my mind. Think I'll replace the broken firing pin first and see how I like shooting it. That'll let me know if it's worth my while to buy the second set.
cheers,
