Hey fellas,
Being that my 1936 M31 is my main bird gun, Im wanting to get a spare firing pin.
2 questions come to mind.
1) Is it the same firing pin for all gauges (12,16,20)?
2) Is it the same firing pin for all series of gun (1931, 1934, 1941)?
Thanks in advance! |

Savage 16,
That's the prime source of origin for my question....
I did go there first but only found one firing pin (part # / pic) listed on thier site. Normally I'd say "well, there's the answer", BUT, with the 3 different production series and the fact the last one left the factory in 1949, I'm not sure I'm confident in that method. Normally what you suggested is exactly what I'd do.
Typing this, I just realized I have the Takedown guide and parts catalog for this gun, which I totally forgot I had. I'm off to check that now.
Keep responding fellas, more info the better! |

Please let us know what you discover. I shoot a 31l at smaller birds and a steel 31 at bigger birds. I never considered pre-finding a firing pin until now. Thanks in advance. |

Took a look at the 1 on Numrich and although a slim profile it isn't very difficult for someone with a lathe a some file work to make one referencing your broken one. Hint, if gong this route turn a couple few while the dim's and techniques are fresh in hand.
I've had good luck using grade 8 bolts as stock and will be turning a replacement for a broken lower firing pin in my Zoli soon before waterfowl season.
Best of luck with your project.... |

Well, turns out the books/info I have are not for a M31....11-48 and Model 11...
Damn.
Still looking for additional insight.
Luckily mine isn't broken, but being on a trip and not having a spare if it happened would be a major drag.
Had it happen with an Auto-5 years ago and actually lucked out at Bucks Sporting Goods in Negaunee, MI....guy had TWO old A5 firing pins...used but not broken. 10 bucks got me in the woods that evening. |

Hey Danny, this is Dennis Rhea. You bought a sweet 16 some years back. I just bought a Remington 31L, 16 gauge, 26" improved cylinder. Some people have a problem with the L guns in that they develop a crack between the trigger guard and where the barrel intersects the receiver. Mine has a small crack but I shoot it anyway. Hope it doesn't get any worse. |
