Posted back in Feb. that I was looking for a sauer 17E or 18E 16ga. A friend called to say a high grade sauer was to be sold at auction in Mattoon , Il. When I saw the gun I couldn't believe it. Sat through the sale of 685 handguns and 84 long guns just to find out that someone else wanted it almost as bad as I. The nice thing about dealers and auctions is that they want to resell at a profit. I wanted the gun to hunt with for hopefully the next 20 years. [img]
[/img] I am just learning picture posting and have a long way to go on this Imac. Shot the short course at the local SC club with a 37/50. Think I would have done better but I am recoil sensitive and the 6 lbs gun with Fiocci 1 oz loads started taking it toll on the second bird after six stations. May not shoot my RBL that finally arrived next season on prarie birds as I had planned. |

Nice shotgun---The Bauer bros. are decent folks but their bi-annual gun auction has become a dog eat dog dealer auction----I am less than an hour away and don't even bother anymore---At one time good deals could be found but now the big city boys bring the cash and shut down everyone else |

What does that gun weigh??
How long are the barrels??
What are the chokes??
Can I be in your will?? Oh, nevermind the last query. |

The gun wieghts 6 lbs ,barrels are 75cm/29.53",right .015 and left .031, when the shells hit the ground they are usually touching. I have owned a lot of nice doubles since my first purchased direct from Berreta in the harbor at Naples,Italy in 1963, A 16 ga 410e with 32" f&f for $124., but none have even come close to the quality of this sauer. Jeff Stephens has told me that the gun was made 1910 to 1911 and chopper lump three ring barrels were used only on sauers highest grade boxlock guns. |

Don't worry, they're not that pretty. You can keep making fun. |
