Can any of you guys point me in the direction of a Darn 16 ga. Where to look. Is the company still in business. For some reason there seems to be a big void in my gun cabinet that needs filled. Thanks Old 16 |

Darne is still in business. They are neat little guns. I refinished a 16 ga Darne for a member of my club last year and as neat as they are to hold....once you have taken one apart you realize just how different they really are.
Make sure you shoot one before you buy, they are light fast handling guns and they do not fit everyones shooting style. If you like to shoot skeet with a prenounted 8lb gun....you won't like the Darne.
I believe the US dealer is now Geoffrey Gournet. Geoff is an exceptional engraver. I have seen his work at the Southern side by Side /Championships and at The Vintagers. He was also fun to talk with and was very patient with my questions.

Bruchet now owns and buids the Darne and Gournet is now the importer.
http://www.fusildarne.com/
I ordered my 16 gauge bespoke Bruchet/Darne a few years ago through Ted.
It is an R11, swamped rib, 65 cm barrels with a unique double trigger. It weighs 6# 0.1 oz. A truly nice upland gun.
With the devaluation of the $, I believe such a gun wouold cost today $7K.
Most used 16 gauge guns are contenental gun with sling swivels. If you can stand swivels, purchasging used would be the way to go but you need to learn about Darnes, dissasembly and what to look out for hwen purchasing any double used.-Dick
Bruchet/Darne R11 16 gauge on top and Darne R10 20 gauge on the bottom.(Importer unknown) |

I have a couple of Darne's and they do come up different than other guns. I think that it is a balance problem. I have trouble hitting anything with these guns. I am interested in the action. One of my goals this year before bird season is to have a proper gunfitting and be able to shoot these guns at chukars. I looked at the gun on the uplandout website and I see no darne engraved on the tang and I can't decipher the grade. Is this a Regis Darne? Budrichard and/or Ted might jump in here. I am trying to educate myself. Regards, Larry I also see some buggered screws. Thanks. |

I looked at the previous post and the shotgun that I am referring to is on shotgunworld site instead of the uplandout site. My apologies. Larry |

As the pictures show, the gun in question is not marked Darne anywhere. My Darnes are so marked on the 'key' or opening toggle or whatever you want to call it and barrels flats! I don't deal in any of the copies so Ted would be a good resource.
As to the specific gun, with its pedigree, its not worth $2300. I would look for a Post War untouched 16 gauge gun. They are out there, you just have to look and not get new gun fever.-Dick |
