I'm trying to load some Remington Game load hulls. I've been loading new cheddite "2.5" hulls with great success using 14.1 grains of American Select, a Cheddite wad, and 7/8 oz of shot.
I picked up some once fired RGL's trimmed a few of them to length and tried loading them with the same load. It does not work worth a hoot. It appears to me the internal dimensions of the RGL are smaller than the Cheddite. Am I correct? If so what would be a better wad to use in the RGL?
Thanks

You are correct. The remington hull is a straight walled hull and does have less capacity. Best case would be to try to get your hands on some Remington R16's. If not, I've had good success with the Gulandi SG16 in the Remington case.

I just loaded the following
RGL hull, trimmed to shoot/eject from a 2 9/16 Win M12
W209 primer
17.5 gr. Unique
CB0100-16 (WAA16 clone)
1 cheerio
7/8 oz. #8 mag shot
Loaded and crimped great!
I tried loading this with the new DR16 wad, but just could not get it to crimp well, at all. I suspect the RGL/DR16 combo would work great for a 3/4 oz. load.
Good luck. |

Your right Bruce the 24 Gram load is too much in the RGL with the DR 16 wad , it loads the 18 , 19.5 , 21 , loads well & one can get 23 Gram loads to fit , but the 24 Gram is like putting 10 pounds of flour in a 5 pound can it just doesn't fit .

Wow! 24 gram load wont fit? That surprises me. I get great fit in the RGL case for 7/8 ounce loads (24.8 grams!) using 15.5 grains of Universal and #8 magnum shot, even though the shot sits a bit high during crimp start before closure. This load works great for me even in a MEC progressive reloader! The crimps come out factory perfect.

Tony

Tony,
I believe he trimmed his RGL hulls down to 2-1/2" |

I am using the new Claybuster 16 wads, but with 1 oz. loads and Universal Clays. They work great 1,200 fps. |
